French Foreign Minister Michel Barnier has
pledged to fight against anti-Semitism, which Israeli leaders say is currently
plaguing France.
Barnier is on a three-day visit to Israel
He began his visit on Sunday at a memorial near Jerusalem, paying tribute to the 80-thousand
French Jews killed in the Holocaust.
He said the fight against anti-Semitism
continues. Barnier's visit is the first since Israeli Prime Minister Ariel
Sharon urged French Jews in July to leave the European country due to "the
wildest anti-Semitism",CCTV.com reported Monday.
Officials called Sharon's comments unacceptable. France has suffered a wave
of anti-Semitic crimes since 2000, coinciding with worsening tensions between
Israelis and Palestinians.
