HK dispatches immigration, medical staff to Taipei
font size

The government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Monday night sent two officers from the Immigration Department and two medial professionals to Taipei in wake of a traffic accident that claimed the lives of five Hong Kong tourists.

A HKSAR government spokesman said that the HKSAR government is highly concerned about the traffic accident in Taiwan, in which over 30 others were also injured.

Reports reaching here from Taipei said all of the injured have been sent to three hospitals nearby for treatment.

The spokesman said the government's Constitutional Affairs Bureau has already contacted Taiwan's Chung Hwa Travel Service (CHTS) to gather information about the situation, and has asked the CHTS to liaise with local authorities with a view to providing assistance to the victims and their relatives.

The four will visit the victims to know more about the necessary assistance required and the arrangements if they are transferred back to Hong Kong for medical treatment.

Local reports said among the five killed in Taipei, two are sisters while the three other women worked for the same restaurant.
