State-run research institute opens to public

The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) Institute of Automation put its latest, high technologies on display Monday.

The latest technologies include entertaining robots, an intelligent wheelchair, intelligent housing systems, public information platform for 2008 Beijing Olympics and others.

The show attracted more than 1,000 students from Qinghua University, Beijing University of Science and Engineering, Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and primary and middle schools.

In addition to the high technology show, the CAS institute organized ten lectures to promote public scientific awareness.

Tan Tieniu, director of the institute which is a state-run research body, said, "we need to do more to our taxpayers, including improving their scientific awareness."

As a tradition, Tan's institute organized such kind of exhibition and promotion four to five times a year.
