Arabic-language magazine helps Arabs look into Dragon

An Arabic-language magazine will help the Arabs take a closer look at China with the Arab-desired style and taste.

As of October, the Arabic edition of China Today, dubbed a window on China, will be edited and published in Cairo instead of the Chinese capital of Beijing, a move conducive to attracting a larger Arab readership and satisfying their need. In this connection, the magazine set up its Cairo Office on Monday to set in motion the new measure.

"The Arabic edition of China Today, with a history of 40 years,has served as a bridge of friendship between China and the Arab world. The establishment of Cairo Office of China Today will certainly help the Arabs have a better understanding of China," Cai Mingzhao, deputy director of the Information Office of the State Council, or the government, told the inaugural ceremony of the event.

For his part, Egyptian Deputy Information Minister Taha Abdel Alim said that Egypt has been interested in China's reform and opening-up drive, and voiced his hope that the press of the two countries could contribute more to promoting friendship and cooperation between Egypt and China.

The China Today magazine, an illustrated general-interest monthly magazine, was launched in 1952 by Soong Ching Ling (Mme.Sun Yat-sen), late honorary president of the People's Republic ofChina.

Articles carried by China Today reflect the economy, lives of the people and current events in the country. It is a window on China for business people, and also those coming to the country to work, study and travel, as it gives insight into sociald evelopments and changes in this land.

The French, Spanish and Arabic editions of China Today were launched in the 1960s, followed by the Chinese edition in 1980. Thefive printed editions of China Today are distributed in over 150 countries and regions.

The magazine is also available online in English, Chinese,French, Spanish, Arabic and German.

In spite of a unified style, each edition carries special reports of the special interest of its targeted readership.
