Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue said Tuesday that the People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) does not change its stand on the six-party talks and still wants to solve the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue through dialogue.

Zhang made the remarks at a press conference.

According to her, Chinese leaders have met and held talks with the visiting DPRK delegation led by Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly, which arrived here Monday for an official good-will visit to China.

The two sides exchanged views on the East Asia's situation and considered the six-party talks a good way to solve the nuclear issue, said the spokeswoman.

Zhang noted that all parties involved in the talks have agreed that the six-party talks are the best way to solve the issue and China has made unremitting efforts to promote the talks.

According to Zhang, Ning Fukui, Chinese ambassador on the Korean Peninsula affairs, has visited the Republic of Korea and the United States recently. While in the US, he met with Richard Lee Armitage, deputy secretary of State, and James Andrew Kelly, assistant secretary for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, and JosephR. DeTrani, State Department special envoy for Korean affairs. They fully exchanged views on the talks.

Besides, Wu Dawei, China's vice foreign minister, met with his Russian counterpart Alexander Alexeyev on the issue during Russian President Vladimir Putin's just-concluded China visit. Cui Tiankai, director of the Chinese Foreign Ministry's Asian Affairs Department, also talked with Japanese officials on the issue at the ASEAN 10 plus 3 meeting at working level recently held in Laos.

All parties have agreed that the talks are an effective way to solve the problem and they should continuously work for the next round of talks as soon as possible, said Zhang.

The spokeswoman also elaborated on the specific cooperation between China and the DPRK. She said such mutually beneficial cooperation between the two parties, two governments and two peoples is an all-round one.

She said the DPRK is a good neighbor of China, adding that China will, within its ability, provide the DPRK with aid so as to help it overcome its practical difficulties.
