US soldier pleads guilty of prisoner abuse
font size

One of the US soldiers pleaded guilty Wednesday to five charges of abusing Iraqi prisoners at Abu Ghraib prison at a court martial in Baghdad.

Staff Sergeant Ivan "Chip" Frederick, 38, admitted to allegations of conspiracy, dereliction of duty, maltreatment of detainees, assault, and committing indecent acts.

He is expected to be sentenced Thursday after his first day of hearing at US military base near Iraq's international airport.

Frederick is alleged to have watched as a group of detainees were made to masturbate while other soldiers photographed them. He is also accused of jumping on a pile of detainees and other indecent acts.
