The death toll of a commuter plane crash on Tuesday in northeastern Missouri increased to 13 when rescue workers found the bodies of five more victims on Wednesday, US officials said.
The Jetstream 32 twin-engine turboprop of the Corporate Airlines crashed in woods when it approached the airport in Kirksville, Missouri. It took rescue workers several hours to recover the bodies of all the victims, including the pilot and co-pilot.
Two people, a 44-year-old woman and a 68-year-old man, survivedand suffered only broken bones and some burns.
Many of the victims were on their way to a medical conference at the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, school officials said.
The cause of the crash was not immediately known. A spokeswomanof the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said that the NTSB expected to get an initial reading from the plane's two blackboxes on Thursday.
