McDonald's plans franchising in China
font size

American fast food giant McDonalds planned to start franchising operations in China and expected to develop about eight to 10 franchises in the country by 2006.

"Franchised stores will play a big role in the next five to eight years," said James Kramer, vice president of international franchising.

Opening a McDonald's franchise will require about 2.5 to 3.2 million yuan (US$300,000 to 390,000).

The world's largest restaurant chain currently operated 600 restaurants in China and hopes to add 100 restaurants each year starting 2005, Kramer said.

McDonald's business model in China is under a joint venture structure.
