China pays high attention to the forthcoming international conference on Iraq, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue said in Beijing Thursday.
China hopes "Iraq can be stabilized as soon as possible and hold general elections as scheduled, so as to elect a government with wide representation and gradually develop its reconstruction process," she said.
China also hoped the conference to make positive contributions to the stability of Iraq's situation in that all parties have agreed to hold such a meeting, she said.
The conference, scheduled for November 22-23 in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, will discuss the implementation of relevant UN resolutions on Iraq, including the Iraqi general election, reconstruction and economic aid to Iraq, Egyptian presidential spokesman Maged Abdel Fattah announced on Wednesday.
The conference is expected to see attendance of the Iraqi interim government, Iraq's neighbors, the Organization of the Islamic Conference, the Group of Eight, China and other regional organizations.
