China hopes the disputes between China and Japan over the East China Sea issue be solved through consultation, which will be held in Beijing on October 25, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue in Beijing Thursday.
Zhang told a regular press conference that the two sides should "further increase mutual understanding through calm dialogue and consultation, in a bid to solve the current differences and disputes."
China will consult with Japan "in the spirit always upheld by China that any dispute or problem should be solved through dialogue and negotiation," Zhang said.
China and Japan do have disputes on boundary demarcation in the East China Sea, and all these disputes will be discussed in the upcoming consultation, she said.
The Chinese delegation will be headed by Cui Tiankai, director-general of Department of Asian Affairs of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, and the Japanese delegation head is Mitoji Yabunaka, director-general of the Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau of the Japanese Foreign Ministry.
The two sides will exchange views on situation in East China Sea and other issues of common concern.
