Facilities for power generation with solar energy have become hot in the vast farming and pastoral area of Tibet.
The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, dubbed "the third pole of the earth" closest to the sun, has singular potential in "sun-burning". Sources say, the annual average radiation amount of solar energy on the plateau, where the daylight period is as long as 3, 400 hours, can reach 70 million kilowatt hours per square meter.
Due to underdeveloped science and technology as well as people's traditional mentality, the advantage in natural resources there has not been given full play. In recent years, with new energy resources and technologies being applied, the fire from sun is burning
According to Ou Xiaohua, deputy director of the center for research and demonstration on solar energy of Tibet Autonomous Region, since the "Tibetan Sunshine Plan" ten years ago, consumption in energy in the whole region gradually enters a "light-to-power" era. Pollution-free energy resources bring people light and warmth. To date, 300 power photovoltaic stations, each of which three to five kilowatts, have been built. In addition, a variety of small independent power photovoltaic stations of totally 5, 400 kilowatts have benefited over 500, 000 residents there.
