China investigates 13,800 smuggling cases so far this year: official

Chinese customs have investigated some 13,800 smuggling cases, including some 7,000 criminal cases, during the January-September period this year, Lu Bin, director of Anti-smuggling Department of the General Administration of Customs announced Tuesday.

From January to September this year, compulsory measures have been adopted on 2,314 suspected smuggling criminals, which is roughly equal to that of last year. Among them, 1,173 have been arrested and 1,273 transferred to procuratorial departments.
