Tibet has harvested a bumper crop for the past 17 consecutive years and the livestock industry shows healthy growth, according to the Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Department in Tibet Autonomous Region.
Tibet registered more than 237,300 hectares of farmland by the end of September, about 667 hectares more than the figure in the previous year.
More than 8.1 million head of livestock were born this year, a rise of 4.6 percent from the same period last year.
Tibet has planned to invest 210 million yuan (25.30 million US dollars) in agricultural infrastructure construction this year to help herdsmen settle down and to protect natural grassland and highland barley production bases, according to the regional agriculture and animal husbandry department.
Under the help of the project, more than 1,340 nomadic families have settled down, about 9,000 hectares of grassland were enclosed with rails for seasonal protection, and some 600 hectaresof pastures and approximately 1,300 hectares of highland barley were planted.
