The central government definitely will not have any relations with the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) unless it abandons its party program of "Taiwan independence," said a spokesman for China's central authorities in Beijing Wednesday.

The Chinese mainland welcomes Taiwan people from all parties and personages from all walks of life to come for visit or to exchange ideas about the advancement of peaceful reunification process and improving relations across the Straits, in accordance with the eight-point proposal set forth by Jiang Zemin in 1995 on the settlement of the Taiwan issue, said Zhang Mingqing, spokesman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, or the central government, at a routine press conference.

The Chinese central government welcomes many DPP members, who are different from a tiny number of obstinate "Taiwan independence" separatists, to come to the mainland for travel, or to make investment, to do business, or to seek medical treatment and to pursue their studies.

"These policies of ours have never been changed," Zhang said.
