Altogether 3.85 million laid-off workers from China's state-owned enterprises (SOE) had found new jobs between January and September this year, said the Ministry ofLabor and Social Security at a press briefing in Beijing Thursday.

China planned to reemploy 5 million laid-off workers in 2004. By the end of September, China had created 7.74 million jobs for its laborers, or 86 percent of the preset employment target of 9 million for 2004, the ministry said.
