China is at a golden period in hydropower construction, and should firmly seize the opportunity to strengthen hydropower generation, said an expert with the World Bank (WB) at a seminar on United Nations and sustainable development in Beijing on October 27.
The expert said, China has accumulated a lot of experience in the design, construction and planning related to hydropower but it still needs exchange and cooperation in a hope to be more competitive to transform into a "hydropower giant".
The expert added that the cost for migration has much to do with the income level of the country's citizens. As for China, the cost is relatively low just as the per capita income. With the rapid development, it will grow enormously. China should seize such a historical opportunity to enhance the development of hydropower.
China is doing the best in migration work but impossibly perfect because there inevitably are many problems propping up, said the expert.
It is stressed that China should pay attention to protecting the environment and minimizing the damage in environment for a sustainable development in its real sense to be realized.
