Down in the southwest of China, preparations are almost complete for the China-ASEAN Expo in Nanning, reported CCTV on Sunday.
The China-ASEAN Expo will be held from November 3 to 6. It is intended to promote cooperation between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
Organizers, as well as local authorities, have been working hard to put on a successful gathering, starting with a grand opening ceremony. A 60-square-meter display screen is one of the highlights.
Zheng Junjian, Deputy Secretary General of Organizing Committee of China-ASEAN Expo, said: "On the big display screen, we will show some beautiful scenes in China and other ASEAN countries. It is also a gate, symbolizing friendship. Leaders and guests will walk through the gate in the opening ceremony."
There will be no lack of high-tech features at the opening ceremony. A computer-controlled fountain mixes water brought by representatives from their own countries, symbolizing cooperation and cultural exchanges. And a giant timepiece, with each country's national flag on it, is named Clock of the Century.
Zheng Junjian also said: "Leaders from each ASEAN country will ring the clock together, symbolizing the cooperation between ASEAN countries entering a brand new age."
More than 800 businesses are expected to participate. In addition to some 550 businesses from the Chinese mainland, the expo will also attract about 250 purchasers from ASEAN countries.
