A Lebanese American contractor, a Filipino and four Jordanian truck drivers were confirmed kidnapped in Iraq in recent days.

The American contractor, who works for the US Army, was seized from his home in western Baghdad around midnight Tuesday, Iraqi police said on Wednesday.

Armed gunmen knocked at the door of his home and seized him when he answered the door. There were apparently no guards at the time of the attack and no gunfire, police said.

Jordanian government spokeswoman Asma Khodr said late Tuesday that four Jordanian truck drivers were also kidnapped in Iraq. Shedid not tell when they were abducted but said Jordan "will seize the opportunity ... to win the release of the hostages."

The Philippines confirmed on Wednesday that a Filipino civilianhas been abducted in Iraq. Speaking at a news conference, Foreign Secretary Alberto Romulo identified the hostage as Roberto Tarongoy, 31, an accountant who he said was kidnapped in Baghdad on Monday.

The identities of his captors were not known.

On Monday, armed assailants stormed the two-story compound of aSaudi company, abducting six people, including an American, a Nepalese, a Filipino and three Iraqis, after a bloody gunbattle that left an Iraqi guard and one of the attackers dead.
