Vanuatuan gov't not to establish "diplomatic relations" with Taiwan
font size

Senior Vanuatuan officials said the island country will not establish "diplomatic relations" with Taiwan and will adhere to one-China stance, according to Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue Thursday.

Zhang made the remark at a regular press conference on a report that Vanuatu has formed "diplomatic relations" with Taiwan.

"The Chinese side has noticed the report. The Chinese Ambassador to Vanuatu Wu Zurong required the Vanuatuan side to make clarification on the matter", said Zhang.

"The Vanuatuan acting Prime Minister Ham Lini and Foreign Minister Barak Sope said that the Vanuatuan government will not change its one-China policy, nor will establish 'diplomatic relations' with Taiwan. Vanuatu will adhere to the one-China stance." Zhang cited the Vanuatuan officials' response.
