The Sixth Shanghai International Industry Fair was unveiled here yesterday, demonstrating the latest domestic and foreign technologies to visitors from home and afar.
A total of 1,286 enterprises and institutions are participating in the six-day event being held in the Shanghai New International Expo Centre in Pudong.
"The enthusiasm of participants, the marketed operation and the advanced level of exhibits will make the fair a successful and name worthy international technological gala," said Han Zheng, Shanghai mayor and honorary director of the fair.
At the opening of the event, more than 11,000 professional visitors registered in advance and a further 100,000 professional visitors are expected to attend the fair.
Non-touch electronic ticketing, being adopted for the first time gave those attending a glimpse of something new as it can be used to shop at the fair's venues and as a transportation card in the city as well.
A national property exchange market has been opened at the centre and 196 items valued 30 billion yuan (US$3.63 billion) in total will be traded here.
One of the most eye-catching sections is the Exhibition of China's Significant Achievements in Engineering which covers an area of 2,500 square metres in Hall One.
Foreign participants from more than 20 countries and regions - including newcomers Switzerland and Hungary - make the event more international.
