ADB names new director for resident mission in China

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) Thursday named Toru Shibuichi to succeed Bruce Murray as the Country Director of its Resident Mission in the People's Republic of China, the bank said in a press release.

The main responsibilities of the new director include project portfolio management; country programming; economic and sector work; assistance in project processing; and aid coordination.

Shibuichi joins the resident mission from his current post of Country Director in Bangladesh, a post he has held since January 2002.

As an agricultural engineer with more than 10 years experience,Shibuichi joined ADB in 1985, where he has also worked as a Project Engineer and Manager of the Forestry and Natural Resources Division (Region West).

He holds a Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Utsunomiya University of Japan. From 1972 to 1981, and from 1984 and 1985, he served in the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (MAFF) as Project Engineer/Senior Project Engineer.

Between 1981 and 1984, Shibuichi worked for Japan's Overseas Economic Cooperation Fund (OECF), currently the Japan Bank for International Cooperation, as Deputy Manager, Technical Department.

Murray moves to ADB's Headquarters in Manila as Director General of ADB's Operations Evaluation Department.
