China to keep contacts with US for six-party talks

China will continue to keep contacts with the United States for a new round of six-party talks on the Korean Peninsular nuclear issue or a working group meeting, after the just-concluded US presidential election.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue made these remarks when asked how the US presidential election will impact on the six-party talks, at a regular press conference Thursday.

The spokeswoman said China has kept close contacts with all parties including the US. China hopes a new round of six-party talks or a working group meeting would be held as soon as possible.

In order to solve the issue, China began to hold consultations with relevant countries in earlier 2003, resulting in the six-party talks.

So far, China, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, the United States, the Republic of Korea, Russia and Japan have held three rounds of talks in Beijing. However, the fourth round of talks supposed to be held in late September was postponed.
