HK police seize HK$5 mln worth of smuggled goodsThe Marine Police and the Customs and Excise Department of Hong Kong announced Friday that 5 million Hong Kong dollars (641,000 US dollars) worth of suspected contraband goods were seized off Black Point in Tuen Mun in a joint operation mounted Thursday. Police officers from the Small Boat Division and officers from the Customs and Excise Department Thursday afternoon found a suspicious mainland container vessel, which was loaded in Hong Kong destined for the mainland. The vessel was intercepted by the police officers and it was then taken to the River Trade Terminal in Tuen Mun for a full search. When searching two containers on board, the police discovered a large number of photographic equipment including computerized photographic hardware and associated materials such as films and photographic papers. The estimated value of the cargo was about 5 million Hong Kong dollars. The case was handed over to the Customs and Excise Department for follow-up actions.
