China to crack down on illegal use of farmland
font size

China will crack down on the illegal occupation and destruction of cultivated land to safeguard the size and quality of the country's farmland.

China's Ministry of Land and Resources calls on government departments to investigate and put a stop to non-agricultural use of farmland. Planting trees and digging fishponds is also to be strictly controlled.

Officials who permit the illegal use of farmland will be subject to punishment.
