FIFA to advise on violence and doping

Soccer's world governing body FIFA will issue next year new recommendations to clubs and institutions to reduce stadium violence, doping and sudden death among athletes, said Saturday doctor Nicolas Zarur, President of the Organizing Committee of the 1st Medical Congress of the institution.

At the end of the works of the event, held in Cancun, in the Mexican Caribbean, Zarur pointed out that the results of the congress have allowed obtaining a consensus on the need to reduce these severe hazards in sports.

"These are among the most important issues, and around them it is indispensable to take more strict measures," he pointed out.

He said the conclusions of this congress will be handed over to the FIFA, and from there to the soccer clubs so overwhelming measures will be taken to reduce violence in stadiums, doping and sudden death among the players.

A week after the sudden death of Brazilian defender Serginho, the issue of sudden death gained great importance in the congress held in Cancun.

Doctor Michel Hooghe, President of the Medical Commission of FIFA, assured the issue of sudden death is one of the three most important ones and said the purpose of the analysis of this matter is for the promotion of regular physical examinations of soccer players, who used to play 30 matches a year, but now, some of them play up to 80.
