12th generator of Three Gorges Project to go into operation
font size

Workers have finished installing the 12th hydroelectric power generator at China's Three Gorges Power Project on the Yangtze River. The generator is expected to go into operation later this month, after additional test runs and checks.

The new generator is an extra one since this year's installation goals have already been completed. Workers will begin installing another six generators from January.

China plans to build the Three Gorges Hydropower Station into the world's largest. The ambitious project is set to be completed in 2009 with an annual capacity of generating 84.7 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity.
