Nepali King urges restoration of peaceNepali King Gyanendra has called for commitment to secure the future of the country through restoration of peace and security and through work according to the aspirations of the people. In a message sent to the nation on Monday on the occasion of the 15th Constitution Day, the king said the past is history and cannot return, and that the people do not want to live in the present state of conflict and violence. "Yet, the people have no desire to continue living in this violence and destruction-ridden present. In view of this, let us all pledge to work towards securing a bright future for implementation of effective reforms in accordance with the aspirations of the people by restoring peace and security in the country," he said. The king said since constitutional monarchy and multiparty democracy are the unchanging bases for Nepalis, the constitution of Nepal 1990 has been promulgated with the objective of giving social, political and economic justice to the Nepali people.
