Gratifying profits have been made at the Three Gorges Project and all the investment is expected to be recovered within 15 years. This is learned at an exhibition on the hydropower project at the Six Shanghai International Industry Fair on November 6.

As the exhibitor introduced, the Three Gorges Project, planned to be completed in 2009, has seen tow thirds done. Presently power generation is under way along with the construction for maximum economic benefit. After the six 700, 000-kilowatt generation units in 2003, five more have been added this year, which, against the shortage in domestic power supply, play as a powerful back-up for the economic construction.

Great earnings were realized at the Three Gorges Project thanks to the power scarcity: the income this year is predicted to exceed four billion yuan. At the present electricity price, the total investment into the project can be recovered in 15 years.

Power generation is the only primary source of profit for the Three Gorges Project and is also a major contributor to flood control and improving shipping.
