German minister underlines flaws of EU military policy
font size

German Defense Minister Peter Strucksaid Tuesday the military policy of the European Union (EU) has serious flaws, especially in the areas of strategic transport, strategic reconnaissance and command structure.

Addressing a military forum here, Struck called for a unified military strategy for the EU, noting that the core of the strategyshould be the relations of the EU with the United States and NATO.

The United States needs support from its European allies in handling global security problems, and an EU with ability to act can better influence the United States, the minister said.

Struck believed that the EU should have clear ideas about whereit can take military actions and how large the scales of such military actions should be.

Only after the bloc has a clear-cut military plan, can all its members develop their own military capacities accordingly, he said.
