Arafat to be buried in Ramallah when he dies: Palestinian officials
font size

Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat will be buried at his headquarters in the West Bank town of Ramallah when he dies, Palestinian officials said Wednesday.

The Muqata compound, where Arafat had been confined to in the past two and a half years, is just a few kilometers from Jerusalem. The Palestinians had hoped to bury their veteran leader in Jerusalem, which was strongly opposed by Israel.

Arafat's condition deteriorated Tuesday and his coma deepened.

But after checking Arafat's health state firsthand Tuesday at the Percy military hospital near Paris, Palestinian leaders said he was still alive despite being in a coma for several days.
