Burundian vice president sacked
font size

Burundian President Domitien Ndayizeye sacked his deputy Wednesday, accusing him of sabotaging efforts to end the country's civil war, according to reports available here.

Vice President Alphonse Kadege was fired one day after he said a referendum on a disputed constitution would not be held on Nov. 26 as scheduled.

Civil war broke out in the central African country in October 1993 after Tutsi soldiers killed the country's first elected leader, a Hutu.
