The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) is willing to resolve the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsular through six-party talks, and reaffirmed its continuous adherence to the goal for the nuclear-weapon-free peninsular, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue Thursday.
Zhang made the remarks at a regular news conference while briefing on DPRK Deputy Foreign Minister Kim Yong Il's current trip to China.
Kim, who arrived here for a visit to China Tuesday, held talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing and Vice Foreign Minister Wu Dawei respectively on how to further advance the progress of the six-party talks. They an exchange of views on strengthening bilateral relations as well as exchanges and cooperation between the foreign ministries of the two countries.
The Chinese side holds that the six-party talks provides a practical and feasible way to resolve the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsular through political dialogues, and this is also the consensus of the parties concerned, Zhang said.
China has been making active efforts for the convocation of the next round of six-party talks at an early date, and been in close contacts with all parties concerned, the spokesperson said, adding that the exact schedule is still being negotiated.
So far, China, DPRK, the United States, the Republic of Korea (ROK), Russia and Japan have held three rounds of six-party talks in Beijing. and the fourth round of talks, nevertheless, failed to be held in late September as scheduled.
