China raises safety concerns to large public buildings: MOC

Among the inspected 2,367 large public constructions across China, 30, or 1.3 percent, have loopholes on construction safety, the Ministry of Construction (MOC) announced Thursday.

The MOC made the announcement after its 2004 inspection of major public buildings in 30 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities across China.

The buildings inspected include gymnasiums, airport terminals, theaters, exhibition centers and metro subway. The buildings are either completed projects or structures under construction.

The inspection discovered that some projects began construction without legal approval or did not use appropriate safety checks.

To these buildings which failed the checkup, the MOC urged departments accountable to come up with measures to fix safety concerns.

The MOC issued a notice on enhancing the quality and management of China's large public buildings last July in a bid to eliminate big construction dangers.
