Anti-smuggling important to state interests: Premier

The work to strike smuggling is important to safeguard China's state interests, said Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao Wednesday when visiting an exhibition on China's anti-smuggling work.

Wen, along with Vice-President Zeng Qinghong and Luo Gan, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, visited exhibition to showcase the anti-smuggling work.

Such work constitutes an important measure to rectify and regulate the market order, Wen said.

It also played an important role in building up a clean government, combating graft and increasing the fiscal revenue, Wen added.

Wen also praised the models emerging from anti-smuggling work, in particular those who sacrificed their lives.

Zeng stressed coordination and cooperation among different regions and departments in the fight against smuggling.

Luo said the mission to strike smuggling is still arduous, saying it is important to motivate people from all walks of life in the campaign.

The State Councilor Hua Jianmin also attended the exhibition.
