China defeated Italy 2-1 in its second match of FIFA U-19 Women's World Championship in Thailand's northern Chiang Mai province on Saturday.

After Italian Agnese Ricco scored the opener with a long shot about 20 minutes into the first half, central defender Wang kun found the equaliser with a swerving free kick from a good 25 meters out in the 15th minute after the break.

China then overtook the Italians in the 76th minute when Xu Yuan calmly slammed the ball into the corner of the net from a right-wing pass.

"We got what we wanted," said Chinese coach Wang Haiming, "My team wanted to win so badly that they pressed too much in the first half, and we did not play very well. In the second half, youcould see how positive and flexible we can be, and we still have yet to show how good we are."

Also in Group B, Nigeria defeated Brazil 3-2 in Chiang Mai later in the day.

In group A, Germany whitewashed Australia 4-0 while Canada stormed host Thailand 7-0 in Bangkok.
