The foreign trade volume of Beijing's firms totaled 22.18 billion yuan in the first ten months, a year-on-year increase of 47.3 percent, the Beijing Morning Post reported Tuesday.

The target foreign trade volume set early for 2004, or 20.8 billion US dollars, has been completed two months ahead of schedule, the Beijing customs was quoted by the paper as saying.

In the first ten months, export of hi-tech products maintained rapid growth, the paper said, stressing the portable phones export volume reached 1.52 billion yuan, up 57.6 percent.

Meanwhile, the import of petroleum products tripled in the first ten months, with an import volume totaling 273 million yuan, the paper said.

The customs figures also show that Asia is still the top market for Beijing firms' export. Beijing's joint ventures are the main sources of the city's export.
