Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said the key to rejuvenating northeast China, which has a solid industrial foundation, lies in improving the quality and efficiency of economic growth.
During his inspection tour of Liaoning Province in northeast China, made from Nov. 13 to 15, Wen also encouraged people in the region to strive for "new glory."
Wen asked companies in the region to promote innovations in operating systems and rely on scientific advances to improve their quality and competitive power.
He urged speeding up the shift of government functions, allowing the market to play a larger role in the allocation of resources and giving full play to the "initiative spirit" of the region's businesses.
Wen asked local governments to vigorously promote the development of modern farming and grain production, saying that high grain production is an advantage of northeast China and the basis for rejuvenating the region.
He also asked local officials to improve their work style and to care "concretely" for the well-being of people in difficulty sothat they could share the benefits of the area's rejuvenation.
