US Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge would resign soon, the Cable News Network (CNN) reported Tuesday.

Ridge would become the latest to resign in the shakeup of the Bush administration following the president's reelection on Nov. 2,but it was not known immediately when he would make his resignation official.

Ridge has told his colleagues that he would probably quit as the homeland security secretary because of his personal finances and job stresses.

Born in August 1945, Ridge was twice elected governor of Pennsylvania, and in January 2003, he became the first secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, which was established in late 2002.

The White House announced the resignations of Secretary of State Colin Powell, Education Secretary Rod Paige, Agriculture Secretary Ann Veneman and Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham on Monday, following the resignations of Attorney General John Ashcroft and Commerce Secretary Don Evans last week.

Tommy Thompson, the health and human services secretary, has also said he would resign.
