Cambodian king, PM meet Chinese delegation

Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni on Wednesday afternoon met with the Chinese government's economic and trade delegation headed by Zhou Yupeng, vice mayor of Shanghai.

The King asked Zhou to convey his thanks to the Chinese government and people for their continuous support and assistance to Cambodia and its people.

Sihamoni said his father, former King Norodom Sihanouk, has established profound friendship with Chinese leaders, which is the valuable fortune for the friendship between Cambodia and China. He said he will, like his father, continue to maintain and strengthen the traditional friendly relations with China.

During the meeting, King Sihamoni reaffirmed the stance of sticking to the "one-china" policy and supporting China's cause of reunification.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen earlier Wednesday morning also met with Zhou and his delegation.

Both the king and the premier spoke highly of the traditional friendly ties between China and Cambodia which they said were forged by the leaders of the two countries in generations.

Zhou said that the Chinese government highly treasures its friendship and cooperation with Cambodia.

China will continuously provide possible financial and technical assistance to Cambodia and make efforts to push forward bilateral cooperation in various fields, he added.

Zhou and his entourage arrived here on Tuesday afternoon to attend the ground-breaking ceremony for the renovation of Cambodia's National Road No. 7 with support from the Chinese government.

China has pledged to provide grant to renovate the road for the country's rehabilitation project.

Zhou said that "the project will become a new milestone for the friendly cooperation between our two countries." He promised that the road will be renovated with high quality and high level.

Hun Sen said that the renovation project is of great significance for Cambodia's economic development.
