More than 500 people including athletes and coaches from 24 countries and regions will take part in the upcoming 6th Asian Wushu Championships in Myanmar, according to the sources of the Myanmar Ministry of Sports in Yangon on November 17.
The 6th Asian Wushu Championships on Nov. 20-28, the largest ever of its kind, will also attract special guests from International Wushu Federation (IWUF) including Britain, the United States, Belgium, Italy, Canada and Portugal as well as Qatar, which will host the 15th Asian Games in 2006.
Out of 29 members of Wushu Federation of Asia (WFA), 24 countries and regions -- Bangladesh, Brunei, China, China's Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, South Korea, China's Macao, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Yemen and host Myanmar -- will participate in the wushu championships.
The Taolu event will fall into 12 categories and the Sanshou event into 16 categories and altogether 154 prizes -- 46 golds, 46 silvers and 62 bronzes -- will be awarded to winners in the championships.
The hosts Myanmar wushu team will comprise 24 athletes: 12 in the Taolu event and another 12 in the Sanshou event.
Meanwhile, Myanmar's wushu ruling body MWF is making best preparation for the event's success, MWF president U Khin Maung Lay said.
