Russia will continue helping Iran carry out its peaceful nuclear program, head of Russia's security council Igor Ivanov said Thursday.
"Russia intends to continue to play an active role in developing Iran's peaceful nuclear power sector in compliance with its appropriate international obligations," Russian news agencies quoted Ivanov as saying.
Ivanov made the comments in a telephone conversation with Hasan Rowhani, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council.
Rowhani told Ivanov that Iran has reached an agreement with France, Germany and Britain to suspend its uranium enrichment.
In return for Iran's cooperation, the three countries, representing the 25-member European Union (EU), are willing to provide trade, security and technological incentives for the country.
"Russia hopes that the agreement between Iran and the EU will be implemented in full, which will help resolve the dispute surrounding Iran's nuclear program," Ivanov said.
Iran says its nuclear programs are only for peaceful aims and will push forward nuclear cooperation with Russia despite protests from the West.
