Chinese President meets Indonesian counterpart on bilateral ties

Chinese President Hu Jintao met here Friday night with his Indonesian counterpart Susilo Bambang on bilateral relations.

During the first meeting between Hu and Susilo after the latter was elected the new Indonesian president in October, the two leaders reached extensive consensus on further strengthening friendly cooperation between China and Indonesia.

Noting China has developed sound bilateral relations with Indonesia, Hu said the two countries trust and support each other in politic affairs and has gained outstanding achievements in economic and trade cooperation. The two sides also enjoy good coordination and cooperation in dealing with regional and global affairs, he added.

Those facts have demonstrated that the development of bilateral relations not only suits the fundamental interests of the two nations and peoples but also benefits the peace, stability and prosperity of the region and the whole world, Hu said.

Hu also proposed some initiatives on enhancing bilateral ties: to well prepare the celebration activities to mark the 55th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries; to tap further potential in diversified cooperation and improve the quality of economic and trade cooperation;

to improve consultation and cooperation mechanism on national defense and security of the two countries; to embody the strategic partnership between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and push forward the establishment of the China-ASEAN free trade areas; to work jointly to promote the unity of and cooperation among developing countries.

The leader also said China strongly supports Indonesia's bid tohost the Asia-Africa summit next year to mark the 50 anniversary of the Bundung meeting.

For his part, Susilo said Indonesia pays great attention to its relations with China and hopes to further consolidate and strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries.

Making active responses to Hu's initiatives on bilateral relations, Susilo said the two countries' good cooperation in trade, energy, investment and infrastructure has laid stable foundation for their broader cooperation.

The president reaffirmed Indonesia's adherence to the "One China" policy, adding that his country has looked the stand as a foundation for cooperation with China.

Susilo also said Indonesia attaches great importance to advance the cooperation between China and the ASEAN in all fields.
