font size

Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing held a phone conversation with Philippine Foreign Secretary Alberto Romulo at the latter's request to discuss bilateral issues.

Li is in the Chilean capital accompanying President Hu Jintao to attend the 12th Economic Leaders' Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum.

In their conversation, Li clarified China's principle and stance on Taiwan and on developing Sino-Philippine friendly and cooperative ties, according to a press release issued by the Chinese delegation.

Romulo said the Philippine government is committed to developing bilateral friendship, firmly adhering to the one-China policy and opposing "Taiwan independence."

The Philippine government will not do anything which might facilitate "Taiwan independence", Romulo added.
