Liu Yunshan, publicity chief of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, met Monday with delegates to "The 21st Century Broadcast Media Summit"in Beijing.

Liu, head of the Publicity Department and also a member of the Political Bureau and the Secretariat of CPC Central Committee, said that the summit held on the "World Television Day" was of great significance.

He hoped Chinese and foreign broadcast media operators would enhance exchange and cooperation and advance the radio and television industry, so as to promote economic growth and social progress, meet the cultural needs of the people, and maintain cultural diversity and world peace.

Patrick McGovern, chairman of the US-based International Data Group, said that foreign media companies and banks were inspired and encouraged by the new policies of the Chinese government for the broadcast and television sector and they believe the policies would bring about more investment opportunities.

"The 21st Century Broadcast Media Summit" was held by the State Administration of Broadcast, Film and Television on Sunday, the "World Television Day", which was designated by United Nations in 1996.
