China is willing to make joint efforts with Belgium to promote mutual understanding between their enterprises and push bilateral diplomatic, economic and trade ties to a new high, said Chinese Vice-Premier Wu Yi in Beijing Monday.

Wu told visiting Belgian Prince Philippe, who led a 500-member delegation here for China-Belgium symposiums, that the Chinese government is satisfied with the fast growth of China-Belgium cooperation in all fields.

"Economic and trade cooperation between the two countries witnessed great progress and bilateral trade recorded stable growth with the joint efforts of the two governments and business communities," Wu said at a meeting with the prince in the Great Hall of the People in downtown Beijing.

As one of the first developed countries investing in China, Belgium had established nearly 500 projects in China by September this year, with the total contractual investment reaching 1.16 billion US dollars, according to Chinese Vice Minister of Commerce Zhang Zhigang.

In the first nine months of this year, China-Belgium trade hit 6.6 billion US dollars, up 36 percent year-on-year, according to Chinese statistics.

The prince said that he always supports Belgium in its mission to carry out all-round cooperation with China, especially in the economic and trade fields.

The cooperation will enjoy much more greater potential with the rapid economic development in the two countries.

The vice premier and prince also exchanged views on intellectual property rights protection and food quarantine.

The Belgian delegation comprised participants from the financial sector, ports and airports, universities, manufacturing and service companies and government officials.

During the week-long trip, the delegation will also visit Shanghai and Guangzhou, China's economic hubs, as well as Anhui Province in east China.
