The volume of Hong Kong's re-exports of goods in September was up 12.9 percent compared with the same month last year, and that of domestic exports up two percent, said the Census & Statistics Department Tuesday.
In all, the volume of total exports of goods rose 12.1 percent,said the department, adding that the volume of imports of goods rose 10.4 percent concurrently.
Releasing the volume and price statistics of external merchandise trade for September, the department said, the volume of Hong Kong's re-exports grew 17.3 percent in the first nine months of 2004 over the year-earlier period, and that of domestic exports was up 1.6 percent. Taken together, the volume of total exports grew 16.1 percent. Concurrently, imports rose 16.5 percentin volume.
Comparing the third quarter with the preceding quarter on a seasonally-adjusted basis, the volume of total exports fell 0.4 percent. Within this total, the volume of re-exports fell 0.5 percent, while domestic exports rose 0.3 percent. Concurrently, the volume of imports fell 2.4 percent.
Comparing September with the same month last year, the price of re-exports of goods rose 2.1 percent, and those of domestic exports grew 3 percent. Taken together, the price of total exportsof goods rose 2.2 percent. Concurrently, the price of imports rose4.4 percent.
