China welcomes Iran's suspension of uranium enrichment programs: FM spokesperson

China welcomed Iran's decision to suspend its uranium enrichment programs, said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhang Qiyue on Tuesday.

The decision created favorable conditions for the UN International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to solve the nuclear issue of Iran, Zhang said at a regular press conference.

On Sept. 18, the IAEA board of governors approved a resolution, demanding Iran stop all enrichment programs before Nov. 25 when the IAEA board of governors holds its meeting and asking Iran to verify all pending issues related to the program.

Iran announced on Nov. 15 that his country would stop all uranium enrichment-related activities a week later.

Mohamed ElBaradei, director-general of the IAEA, said on Monday that Iran had suspended its uranium enrichment programs.
