The branch office of the China LifeInsurance Co. Ltd. in Inner Mongolia began Tuesday to pay compensation to family members of some policy holders who died in Sunday's plane crash.

Investigation showed 25 of the 47 plane crash victims had bought accident insurance. One passenger bought two policies. The families of each victim is due to receive a compensation of 400,000 yuan (48,192 US dollars).

In addition, six of the 25 policy holders also bought other kinds of insurance policies beforehand.

The China Life Insurance Co. Ltd. will pay the compensation in three steps: to victims who had bought other kinds of insurance inBaotou before the accident, to victims who had bought accident insurance in Baotou, finally to victims who bought all types of policies in other parts of China.

Wen Yongxiang, general manager of the insurance company's Baotou branch, provided the first batch of compensation worth 400,000 yuan to the family members of a victim Tuesday.

A CRJ-200 plane, carrying 47 passengers and six crew members from Baotou to Shanghai, crashed in a park lake in Baotou on Sunday morning shortly after it took off. All of the people aboard and a man on the ground were killed. The remains of 54 victims, including one from Indonesia, have been found.
