Heavy fog delays flights in Urumqi airport

Heavy fog has delayed all flights at Urumqi International Airport, capital in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, on Tuesday morning.

Sources from the airport said heavy fog emerged from south partof Junggar Basin and the whole area of Tianshan Mountain creating a visibility of 100 meters. This has hindered all flights to and from the airport since 9 a.m. Tuesday.

The southern Airlines alone has found the takeoff of 25 flights and landing of 39 flights at the airport have been delayed till 6 p.m.. Passengers either received reimbursements or transferred to later flights.

Local weather department forecast that the heavy fog will extend until tomorrow, and no sign has yet shown that the flights will resume soon.
