Czech Republic plans to join NATO air defense

The Czech Republic is planning participation in a number of exercises of the units of air and anti-aircraft defense within NATO, while some of which will be held on its territory.

The schedule of the events will be submitted for review by Defense Minister Karel Kuehnl to the government on Wednesday.

The army will take part in 75 exercises in other NATO countries,while in the Czech Republic roughly 40 will be held. Along with the airforce, the ground forces will be sometimes involved.

The training flights are mainly designed to test the capabilityof Czech airforce to operate in NATO countries neighboring the Czech Republic.

Four Czech planes at the most will attend individual exercise and the time of training abroad will not exceed 24 hours.

The aircraft of Czech neighbors will operate in the Czech Republic under similar conditions. The soldiers will be trained for searching and rescuing plane crews in emergency.

In reconnaissance missions, hundreds of members of special forces from Britain, Italy, Denmark, Germany, the United States and Belgium are to be deployed.
